I met Ken when I joined Religious Studies at Cardiff University in the late 90’s, we quickly became friends and not just work colleagues. Ken was a wonderful, kind, gentle, humble and very intelligent soul, he will be missed greatly. I am deeply saddened I couldn’t attend his funeral but I will think of him always and send my sincere condolences to his family.

I got to know Ken through my housemate when I was at Cardiff University, from our initial meeting he was a lovely man to talk to and spend time with and he generously offered the chance for us to spend New Year's eve at his house with some friends.

We enjoyed our time there so much, that we agreed to do it the next New Year's...only this time I brought one of my brothers with me as well. He also had a great time so the next year my girlfriend (now wife) also joined us and so on and so on.

Every time that I got the chance to be in Ken's company was full of conversation, laughter, and very good food. His house was reflective of who he was as a person, warm and welcoming with that Aga cooker in the kitchen, the piano, the open fire, and most of all the books. So many books; probably the most books I have ever seen an individual own!

We had hours of conversations between us all, went for walks in the Mumbles, went to see concerts, and many more. He was an honoured guest at my wedding and it was heartbreaking to hear from the friend that introduced us about Ken's mental condition. For such an articulate and intelligent man this feels particularly cruel.

I have nothing but fond memories of the times that we spent and I know that Ken will be missed greatly by all that had the fortune to spend time with him. Gentle, but not soft, and in every sense of the word, a true gentleman.
